Control cabinet manufacturing for industrial companies

PLC programming as the link between planning and manufacturing

PLC programming connects the electrical design with the function of the machine or plant. Interface, scope and responsibility are agreed on a project-specific basis.

How does PLC programming fit into the project workflow?

The electrical design defines power supply, protection, signals and interfaces; the control software implements the required functions on that basis. To ensure both levels match, the I/O list, operating modes, safety functions, communication and approval process are agreed jointly.

Process

From functional description to accepted control system

Electrical design and control software are interlinked: the schematic defines which signals are present at which terminals; the program implements the machine’s functions on that basis. If one side changes, the other has to be updated.

That is why the I/O list, operating modes and safety functions are agreed before programming begins.

01

Clarify the function

Jointly define the functional description, operating modes and sequences.

02

Align signals

Align the I/O list and I/O assignment with the schematic.

03

Program and test

Implement functions and test them according to the agreed procedure.

04

Accept and hand over

Carry out acceptance, document the status and hand over.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about PLC programming

Which documents are required for programming?

A functional description with operating modes and sequences, an I/O list with inputs and outputs, requirements for safety functions and communication, as well as specifications for the control platform, programming and plant standards.
The I/O list and I/O assignment in the schematic form the common basis. Changes on one level are carried over to the other and documented as a change, so that the control cabinet and the program share the same status.
The platform is based on your specification or your plant standard and is defined before the project starts.
Testing, simulation where applicable, and acceptance are agreed as part of the scope of services before work begins. Handover of source code and modification rights is also settled in advance.
